Malt Extract Broth
Malt Extract Broth
Liquid Fungal Culture Medium for Yeasts and Moulds
Product Identification
Chemical & Physical Information
Product Name: Malt Extract Broth
Catalogue Number: AS-1287
Medium Type: Selective liquid culture medium
Form: Dehydrated powder
Product Description
Malt Extract Broth is a nutrient-rich liquid culture medium formulated for the detection, isolation, and enumeration of fungi, particularly yeasts and filamentous moulds. It is also widely used for cultivating fungal strains in microbiological vitamin assays and fermentation-related studies.
The medium contains polysaccharides derived from malt extract, which serve as a readily available energy source and contribute to the slightly acidic pH, favouring fungal growth while inhibiting many bacteria. The inclusion of mycological peptone provides a rich source of nitrogen, amino acids, and growth factors to support optimal fungal metabolism and biomass development.
Selectivity may be enhanced by the addition of antibiotics, tartaric acid, or lactic acid to further suppress bacterial contaminants. Modified formulations of Malt Extract Broth have been referenced in mycological literature, including selective cultivation of Aspergillus flavus.
Ausamics Malt Extract Broth is supplied as a high-quality dehydrated powder to ensure consistent performance and reproducible results.
