Description

Cephalexin Hydrochloride Powder is a strong first-generation cephalosporin antibiotic used in microbiology laboratories. It inhibits the growth of bacteria, especially Gram-positive bacteria, and is commonly used in research, microbiological studies, and controlled laboratory workflows.

The mechanism of action of cephalexin hydrochloride involves disruption of bacterial cell wall synthesis. Peptidoglycan is essential for bacterial cell wall stability, and like other beta-lactam antibiotics, cephalexin acts by binding to specific enzymes involved in peptidoglycan formation, thereby inhibiting cell wall construction. As a result, the bacterial cell wall is weakened and the organism eventually dies.

Although cephalexin demonstrates some activity against selected Gram-negative bacteria, it is primarily active against Gram-positive bacteria and is not generally considered a broad-spectrum antibiotic.
