Fosfomycin Disodium Powder (CAS 26016-99-9) is a water-soluble sodium salt of fosfomycin, a naturally occurring phosphonic acid antibiotic. The disodium form provides excellent aqueous solubility, making it ideal for preparation of working solutions in microbiological and biochemical research.
Fosfomycin disodium exerts bactericidal activity by covalently and irreversibly inhibiting MurA (UDP-N-acetylglucosamine enolpyruvyl transferase) — the enzyme catalysing the first committed step in bacterial peptidoglycan biosynthesis. This unique mechanism confers broad-spectrum activity against both Gram-positive and Gram-negative organisms with minimal cross-resistance to other antibiotic classes.
In translational research, fosfomycin disodium is widely studied as an effective agent against multidrug-resistant organisms (MDROs) including ESBL-producing Escherichia coli and vancomycin-resistant Enterococcus faecalis.

Aqueous Stock (recommended)
Dissolve in sterile Milli-Q water or PBS (pH 7.4) at 50–100 mg/mL. Vortex until dissolved. Filter-sterilise through 0.22 µm PES membrane. Aliquot into single-use volumes and store at –20 °C. Avoid repeated freeze–thaw cycles.
Incompatibilities
Avoid strong oxidising agents, acidic conditions (pH <4), and calcium-containing solutions (precipitation risk).
