Sodium Pyruvate (ASC-8016) is the sodium salt of pyruvate, a central intermediate in glycolysis, the TCA cycle, and fermentation pathways. In microbiological media, sodium pyruvate can serve as a supplementary carbon source and assist in the recovery of stressed or injured microorganisms via its free-radical/peroxide-scavenging properties. Pyruvate sits at the central junction of glycolysis, the TCA cycle, and fermentation. Sodium pyruvate provides a readily bioavailable source of this intermediate, and has documented antioxidant properties, scavenging hydrogen peroxide and protecting cells from oxidative stress.
