Bacteria Screening Medium 523

Nutrient-Rich Medium for Detection of Bacterial Contamination in Plant Cultures

Catalog Number: AS-1391

Overview

Bacteria Screening Medium 523 is a nutrient-rich microbiological medium formulated specifically for the detection of bacterial contamination in plant tissue culture systems. It is designed to promote the growth of contaminating bacteria that may remain undetected on standard plant culture media.

The medium contains sucrose as a primary energy source, along with vitamins from yeast extract and amino acids derived from hydrolysed casein, creating favourable conditions for bacterial proliferation. This allows rapid and reliable screening of plant cultures for latent or low-level bacterial contamination.

Ausamics Bacteria Screening Medium 523 is widely used in plant biotechnology, micropropagation, and research laboratories as a quality-control tool to ensure the sterility and integrity of plant tissue cultures.

Key Features & Benefits

  • Effective detection of bacterial contamination in plant tissue cultures

  • Nutrient-rich formulation to support growth of a wide range of bacteria

  • Enhances visibility of low-level or slow-growing contaminants

  • Simple and practical screening procedure

  • Supports routine sterility monitoring in plant culture workflows

Typical Applications

Plant Tissue Culture & Micropropagation

  • Screening of plant explants and cultures for bacterial contamination

  • Quality control during in vitro propagation and maintenance

Plant Biotechnology & Research

  • Sterility assessment in experimental plant cultures

  • Monitoring contamination during long-term culture experiments

Laboratory Quality Control

  • Verification of aseptic handling and culture integrity

  • Early detection of microbial contamination

Principle of the Medium

Bacteria Screening Medium 523 provides readily available carbon, nitrogen, vitamins, and growth factors that support rapid bacterial growth. When plant material is introduced to the medium, contaminating bacteria proliferate and become visible, allowing confirmation of contamination that may not be apparent on plant growth media.

Method of Use (Typical)

  • Aseptically stab plant tissue into the medium or

  • Gently swipe plant material across the surface of the medium

  • Incubate under appropriate laboratory conditions

  • Observe for bacterial growth indicating contamination

Important Note

This medium is not intended to support plant tissue growth.
Extended incubation of plant material on this medium is not recommended.

The medium is used solely for screening and detection of bacterial contamination.

Storage & Stability

  • Store dehydrated medium at 15–25 °C, dry, in a tightly sealed container

  • Prepared medium should be stored at 2–8 °C

  • Do not use if signs of contamination or deterioration are observed

Intended Use & Disclaimer

For laboratory research and quality-control use only.

Not for drug, household, agricultural treatment, or therapeutic use.

Quality & Documentation

  • Manufactured under controlled conditions for batch consistency

  • Certificate of Analysis (COA) available

  • Safety Data Sheet (SDS) available upon request
