Differential Reinforced Clostridial Agar | Selective Medium for Anaerobic Bacteria | AS‑1208
Differential Reinforced Clostridial Agar
Solid agar medium for cultivation and colony-level differentiation of Clostridia
Differential Reinforced Clostridial Agar (DRCA) is a solidified version of Reinforced Clostridial Medium designed for the isolation, cultivation, and colony-level differentiation of Clostridium species and other anaerobes. The medium provides a rich nutrient base and low oxidation–reduction potential suitable for robust anaerobic growth.
🏆 Reliable Clostridia Isolation
🔬 Product Overview
Differential Reinforced Clostridial Agar (DRCA) is formulated for the isolation and cultivation of Clostridium species from food, environmental, pharmaceutical, and general laboratory samples. The medium is based on the classical Reinforced Clostridial Medium formulation, solidified with agar to allow colony formation.
It is suitable for routine anaerobic workflows requiring colony morphology assessment, purity checks, and subculture of Clostridia and other anaerobes.
⚗️ Principle of the Medium
↓
Rich nutrient supply
↓
Starch & glucose
↓
Energy & detoxification
↓
L-cysteine
↓
Reduced redox potential for anaerobic growth
The medium contains peptones, beef extract, and yeast extract to supply essential nutrients. Soluble starch helps neutralise toxic metabolites, while glucose provides a fermentable carbohydrate. L-cysteine acts as a reducing agent, lowering the oxidation–reduction potential. Agar solidifies the medium, enabling colony formation and morphological differentiation.
