🔬 Product Overview

Differential Reinforced Clostridial Agar (DRCA) is formulated for the isolation and cultivation of Clostridium species from food, environmental, pharmaceutical, and general laboratory samples. The medium is based on the classical Reinforced Clostridial Medium formulation, solidified with agar to allow colony formation.

It is suitable for routine anaerobic workflows requiring colony morphology assessment, purity checks, and subculture of Clostridia and other anaerobes.

⚗️ Principle of the Medium

Peptones & extracts

Rich nutrient supply

Starch & glucose

Energy & detoxification

L-cysteine

Reduced redox potential for anaerobic growth

The medium contains peptones, beef extract, and yeast extract to supply essential nutrients. Soluble starch helps neutralise toxic metabolites, while glucose provides a fermentable carbohydrate. L-cysteine acts as a reducing agent, lowering the oxidation–reduction potential. Agar solidifies the medium, enabling colony formation and morphological differentiation.

🧬 Key Applications

🦠 Clostridia Isolation

Suitable for isolating Clostridium spp. from mixed anaerobic samples.

🍽️ Food & Dairy Microbiology
