Overview
Esculin is a naturally occurring coumarin glycoside originally isolated from Aesculus hippocastanum (horse chestnut). In laboratory research, esculin is used in biochemical, pharmacological, and analytical studies due to its well-characterised molecular properties.
In experimental model systems, esculin has been investigated for anti-inflammatory and antioxidant activity, attributed to its ability to reduce oxidative stress associated with free radical formation. It has also been studied in renal and enzymatic research models, including investigations related to renin activity and fibrosis pathways under controlled experimental conditions.
In addition to biological research, esculin is utilised as a coumarin derivative in analytical chemistry, including applications as a stationary or functional component in chromatographic separation and compound identification studies.
