Product Overview

Imipenem Monohydrate is a broad-spectrum carbapenem β-lactam antibiotic widely used in microbiology and antimicrobial research. It exhibits potent activity against a wide range of Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria, including aerobic and anaerobic microorganisms.

Imipenem functions by inhibiting penicillin-binding proteins (PBPs), enzymes essential for bacterial cell wall synthesis. By disrupting peptidoglycan cross-linking, the compound weakens bacterial cell walls and ultimately causes cell lysis.

Ausamics Imipenem Monohydrate is supplied as a high-purity laboratory reagent suitable for microbiology research, antibiotic resistance studies, and antimicrobial susceptibility testing.

Mechanism of Action

Imipenem belongs to the carbapenem class of β-lactam antibiotics and exerts its antimicrobial activity by binding to penicillin-binding proteins (PBPs). These enzymes are responsible for cross-linking peptidoglycan chains during bacterial cell wall synthesis.

By inhibiting PBPs, Imipenem disrupts cell wall formation, resulting in bacterial cell wall destabilization and cell death.

• Aerobic microorganisms
• Anaerobic microorganisms

Representative organisms include:

Pseudomonas aeruginosa
Enterococcus species
Staphylococcus species
Streptococcus species
• Enterobacteriaceae family
